New Reviews from the Excellent 2014 Vintage

Bob Campbell MW reviews from June and July 2020

98 - 5 Stars - 2014 Puriri Hills Pope, Clevedon,

Flagship wine with merlot 41%, cabernet franc 31%, carménère 18%, malbec 10%. Quite a Bordeaux-like red that's more vinous than fruity. Savoury, dried herb, spicy oak, leather, violet, dark berries, plum and cocoa powder. Still quite youthful with plenty of cellaring potential.

97 - 5 Stars - 2014 Puriri Hills Harmonie du Soir, Clevedon,

A blend of merlot 42%, cabernet franc 25%, Carménère 17%, cabernet sauvignon 8% and malbec 8%. Intense and complex red with a range of flavours including dark berry, plum, wood smoke, roasted chestnut, anise, spice and nutty oak. A delicious wine that's great to taste now but promises to develop further with bottle age.

95 - 5 Stars - 2013 Puriri Hills Estate, Clevedon,

A Merlot-dominant blend with cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and carménère. Elegant, spicy red with dark berry, malt, liquorice, vanilla, brambles, spice and toasty oak flavours. A seamless, supple wine that's certainly accessible now but should continue to deliver pleasure for many years yet.
